Let’s start our journey with basic components of a simple circuit.
In this project we will learn about the following concepts.
- Open circuit.
- Closed circuit.
Open Circuit – When there is a break in the circuit, which disallows the flow of electric current, is called open circuit. An open circuit is also called a circuit in OFF state.
Closed Circuit – When a circuit provides a continuous path to flow of current it is called closed circuit. A closed circuit is also called a circuit in ON state.
We will get to work with the following components in this project.
- Battery.
- Light Bulb.
- Switch.
- Wire.
Battery – Battery is the source of energy in the circuit.
Light Bulb – Light Bulb will act as the load in the circuit.
Switch – Switch will be used to switch ON and OFF the light bulb.
Wire – Wire will be used for connecting various components used in the circuit.

The component will be connected as per the schematic shown in the above diagram. When the switch will be in OFF state it will not allow the current to flow into the circuit and the power from the battery will not able to reach the bulb. As soon as the switch will be put in ON state the current will start flowing in the circuit and the light bulb will start glowing.
